What I love about 'More' - the timeless love song from the 1960's

Why I covered the Grammy Award winning song 'More' from the movie 'Mondo Cane'.

Since love is a living word for us all - meaning its meaning changes as we grow and mature our whole lives - it makes sense that love is the topic of a lions share of songs. The challenge in writing a love song is how hard it is to express what love is, especially in a way that stands out and feels fresh. What makes 'More' so great is the sentimental melody over the descending chords harmonizing underneath giving it a true nostalgic feel to it that is timeless, giving the lyrics that much more life and power. The first time I encountered this song was in the movie 'Out To Sea' starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. I hope you enjoy my simple acoustic interpretation. Below are the lyrics.

More than the greatest love the world has known

This is the love that I give you alone

More than the simple words I try to say

I only live to love you more each day

More than you'll ever know

My arms long to hold you so

My life will be in your keeping

Waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping

Longer than always is a long long time

But far beyond forever you'll be mine

I know I never lived before

And my heart is very sure

No one else could love you more...

Than the greatest love, the world has known

This is the love that I give you alone

More than the simple words I try to say

I only live to love you more each day

More than you'll ever know

My arms long to hold you so

My life will be in your keeping

Waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping

Longer than always is a long long long time

But far beyond forever you'll be mine

I know I never lived before

And my heart is very sure

No one else could love you more...
